Bike and Blend – A Healthy Hit for Mindful May
Recently, the lawn behind James Law’s House at St George Hospital came alive with energy and enthusiasm as the hospital’s Allied Health Wellbeing Committee hosted their first ever Bike and Blend event. The event offered a refreshing and fun break in the workday with interactive fitness challenges, exciting prizes and, of course, pedal-powered smoothies. This involved staff pedaling on stationary bikes with blenders attached that were whipping up healthy smoothies!
Bike and Blend was just one of the many events featured throughout Mindful May. The initiative was developed by the Allied Health Wellbeing committee to highlight the importance of staff wellbeing, address staff burnout and encourage both mindfulness and self-care among our daily working routine.
Activities also included an education session on burnout delivered by SESLHD clinical psychologists, a PET Paws therapy visit from dog Astro and a guided group mindfulness session. With a month full of engaging and health-promoting activities, Mindful May inspired our Allied Health team to prioritise wellbeing, both at work and beyond.
“Bike and Blend was absolutely fantastic – it was such a joy to see Allied Health staff having fun together, connecting and recharging in such a fun and uplifting way! It was great to celebrate our amazing teamwork and positivity here at St George Allied Health” said Elise Klumpes-Grant, St George Allied Health Manager.
“A special thank you goes out to our generous sponsors as well as St George Hospital Executive Leadership Team who helped make the event possible and supported our vision for a healthier, more connected workplace.”
